A collaboration between LATI and Babyliss to make hair dryers more durable, precise, and quiet.

In professional hairstyling, the quality of tools makes all the difference. It’s not just about power or design: what really matters is the ability to work for long periods under challenging conditions, without losing efficiency or safety. This need led to the collaboration between LATI and Babyliss, resulting in the development of the BabylissPro Falco hair dryer, one of the most silent and advanced ever created.

PPS: the Technical Polymer that Challenges Heat and Moisture

At the core of the project is a special material: polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), a thermoplastic known for its dimensional stability and thermal resistance above 200°C.
It is a polymer that is:

  • resistant to chemical attacks
  • moisture-resistant (anhydrous)
  • stable even in environments with extreme temperature fluctuations

LATI used PPS to develop LARTON, a family of structural compounds reinforced with glass fibers and mineral fillers, perfect for components subject to thermomechanical stress.

The Right Material for the most Delicate Parts of the Hair Dryer

Conair, the group that owns Babyliss, chose LARTON GCE/650 – PPS-based with a 65% load of glass fibers and ceramics, to manufacture the internal grids and other functional elements of the Falco hair dryer.
These parts are located near the heating elements, where temperatures can exceed 200°C. Under these conditions, it is essential that the shape of plastic components remains perfect: even the slightest deformation would compromise airflow, increase noise, and could lead to malfunctions.
LARTON meets this challenge by ensuring:

  • high rigidity and precision
  • no thermal deformation even with very thin walls
  • excellent acoustic performance

A more Silent, Efficient, and Durable Professional Hair Dryer

The result? The new BabylissPro Falco can work steadily for over 5000 hours, with a noise level below 70 dB, well under the 80-90 dB of a traditional hair dryer.
The precision of the outlet grids also optimizes the speed and direction of airflow, providing quick and uniform drying. All this with impeccable aesthetics and resistance to moisture and critical environmental conditions, thanks to the anhydrous nature of PPS.

Materials Technology Serving User Experience

This collaboration between LATI and Babyliss demonstrates that the selection of advanced plastic materials can improve not only the technical performance of a product but also the end-user experience. The LARTON compound is not just a material meeting technical specifications: it’s what makes possible a more silent, more reliable, and more durable hair dryer, perfect for styling professionals.
