“Proper management of succession is fundamental both to ensure the continuity of a company and to foster its development. It’s a transition that should be planned in advance, preferably in generational synergy and with the support of competent professionals.
This is what LATI did, which, with a far-sighted and by no means obvious policy, transformed the handover in company management into an opportunity for growth, with immediately tangible results. We discuss this with Michela Conterno, the current CEO.

LATI is a successful reality because it can count on important peculiarities, starting with its history: founded in 1945, it is still managed and controlled by the same family now as it was then.
This is not a given aspect, which must be combined with the ability to operate in a solid context, with a continuous offer of quality products that guarantee a sustainable future.
These are all prerequisites that distinguish us and that represented a precise point of reference when it was time to plan the transition of the third generation, mine, into the company.”
Michela Conterno, CEO of LATI, starts from these considerations to reason about the present, but above all about the future of a group that has become one of the European leaders in thermoplastic compounding for engineering use without ever losing sight of its roots.

How did you manage the generational transition, a moment that often penalizes companies with a family history?

With the awareness of not falling into the error that many owners make when they fail to take the famous “step back” as the time approaches to look to the future.
We were fortunate to be able to count on the foresight of my father Francesco, the current president of LATI, who over the years has been able to set up correct planning, ensuring that every new professional entering the company guaranteed the necessary skills.
Another important decision was to avail ourselves of the collaboration of a consultant specialized in the generational transition of companies, who is now on the board of directors after having supported my father in developing the new governance, leading to a progressive transfer of powers…
