“Helping people maintain or regain their freedom of movement.”
This is the mission of German MedTech champion Ottobock.
With over a century of experience, Ottobock develops prosthetic solutions aimed at restoring mobility for amputee patients, enabling them to return to an active, quality life.
In Ottobock prostheses, excellent structural design combines with top-tier materials, chosen with clear objectives: lightness, reliability, and durability. Along with metal alloys, high-performance composite materials and synthetic polymers are also used.
At the heart of one of Ottobock’s most tested and approved prosthetic knees on the market lies a high-performance thermoplastic component: a plastic bushing that enables smooth and controlled knee flexion.
Due to strict safety requirements, the need for comfortable and harmonious movements, and above all, a durability exceeding three million cycles, Ottobock had to choose a cutting-edge material capable of passing all rigorous tests required before patient use.
This is where the collaboration between LATI and Ottobock began. United by a shared vision of their market role and responsibility towards patients, the two companies worked side by side to develop the ideal compound for this challenging application.
The result is LATIMASS SP11 RS-11 D040, an innovative thermoplastic compound based on PA11 and filled with bronze spheres.
The chemical and physical nature of polyamide 11, combined with the mechanical and morphological characteristics of the metallic particles, enables the injection molding of next-generation bushings with excellent self-lubricating properties and exceptional wear resistance.
The new bushings have passed all technical and comfort tests, setting a new benchmark for orthopedic knee prosthesis technology.
Once again, LATI’s special compound catalog proves to be a dynamic portfolio of solutions, continuously evolving thanks to the constant work of the R&D team.
