Explore the lighting revolution with Lagolight: discover how traditional materials have been replaced with advanced LATICONTHER thermally conductive plastic materials for the Fulgo portable lamp.

The applications of thermally conductive plastic materials are becoming increasingly common not only for their good performance in heat management but also for their lightness compared to traditional materials such as aluminum.

Powerful and Lightweight Illumination for Every Job: the Fulgo Headlamp by Lagolight

The Fulgo headlamp developed by the French company Lagolight has been designed to provide an efficient and very lightweight light source. It is intended to be comfortably worn during an entire work shift by users who need intense and direct light in specific work environments.
Lagolight has been operating in the portable lamp sector for over thirty years, designing and producing devices that offer precise and powerful light beams. These lamps are designed by combining cutting-edge technology with ease of use and comfort. Typical customers are professionals working in critical sectors such as construction, maintenance, emergency, ATEX environments, railway activities, and road construction. The design of the new model set ambitious requirements: an extremely powerful light source, with over 1000 lumens, while being lightweight, flexible, and versatile, with an autonomy of over ten hours. The light beam is generated by two 2W LEDs, mounted on a PCB and then on a support that also acts as a heat sink.

Successfully addressing heat. The choice of the LATICONTHER range

To ensure reliable operation even in ambient temperature conditions close to 40°C, Lagolight worked in collaboration with LATI. Together they chose the most suitable plastic material and verified the thermal performance through FEM simulations. The calculations performed by LATI allowed for a comparison between a hypothetical aluminum heat sink and an identical device molded using LATICONTHER filled with ceramic or graphite. In light of the results, Lagolight opted for LATICONTHER 62 GR/50, known for its excellent performance, versatility, and cost-effectiveness.
This plastic material offers thermal conductivity higher than 10 W/mK thanks to the use of a special technical graphite. This solution also allows for preserving the mechanical strength of the object, necessary to withstand the stresses during the use of the lamp.
The selected base polymer finally allows for combining ease of molding, dimensional stability, and excellent aesthetics, which is imperative for a product that is both technical and visible.

A Reduced Environmental Footprint: Lagolight’s Commitment to Sustainability

It is also worth highlighting Lagolight’s commitment to offering the market more sustainable products with a reduced environmental impact. This improvement is facilitated by the density of the thermoplastic compound, which is about half that of aluminum, and the lower energy costs associated with its production, processing, and transportation.

Why plastic makes the difference.
