Hosted by <strong>Sun Chemical<\/strong>, the event saw the active participation of <strong>Daniele Magni<\/strong>, Product Regulatory Technician and <strong>Cristiano Citterio<\/strong>, Product Regulatory Affairs Manager at LATI, protagonists of an intense discussion on topics destined to change the future of the sector. <br\/><br\/><strong>EuMBC<\/strong>, a sectoral group of <strong>EuPC<\/strong> of which <strong>LATI is a founding member<\/strong>, has the task of representing European companies in the compound and masterbatch sector in dialogue with institutions. The objective is to address the main regulatory challenges with a constructive spirit, promoting <strong>safety, transparency and free movement of goods<\/strong> in a rapidly evolving context. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br\/>PPWR and Sustainability: more than an Objective, a Responsibility<\/h2>\n\n<p>Among the most debated topics during the meeting emerges the new <strong>EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)<\/strong>. Among the main innovations: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ban on PFAS<\/strong> in packaging starting from the second half of 2026;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Definition of <strong>substances of concern<\/strong> for packaging;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extension of <strong>reuse and recycling<\/strong> obligations also to the <strong>B2B<\/strong> sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This regulation represents a key step in the path towards a circular economy, but introduces significant challenges for compound manufacturers, called upon to guarantee functional, safe and sustainable materials.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br\/>MOCA and Purity: the Impact of the 19th Amendment to Regulation (EU) No. 10\/2011<\/h2>\n\n<p>Another crucial focus is the recent amendment to Regulation (EU) No. 10\/2011 relating to MOCA (Materials and Objects in Contact with Food), which introduces the concept of &#8220;High Degree of Purity&#8221;. This implies: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessment of <strong>NIAS<\/strong> (Non Intentionally Added Substances);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transmission of information throughout the entire <strong>supply chain<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater responsibility also for those who <strong>place the finished product on the market.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Food compliance today requires close collaboration between base manufacturers, processors and end users.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br\/>Microplastics and Traceability: the New European Regulation<\/h2>\n\n<p>The fight against <strong>microplastic dispersion<\/strong> also had ample space in the debate. The new regulation is already in the implementation phase and provides that: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By <strong>May 2026<\/strong>, manufacturers and industrial users will have to carry out <strong>reporting to ECHA<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The operational procedures have been developed for some time by the Operation Clean Sweep\u00ae (OCS) certification scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This is an important step for <strong>environmental sustainability<\/strong> and traceability throughout the material&#8217;s life cycle.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Functional Additives: New Assessments Underway<\/h2>\n\n<p>On the front of <strong>functional additives<\/strong>, the news is multiple:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The cancellation of the <strong>classification of titanium dioxide<\/strong> (TiO<sub>2<\/sub>), after a long legal battle, has given relief to manufacturers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>assessment of Carbon black<\/strong> is expected for 2027;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The French proposal to classify  <strong>talc as Carc. 1B <\/strong>  is under discussion;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In parallel, an <strong>inter-association project<\/strong> has been launched to provide additional scientific evidence on the <strong>matrix effect<\/strong> in polymeric mixtures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Also in this area, the rigor of the scientific approach will be decisive in guiding regulation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br\/>Compliance: from Obligation to Strategic Lever<\/h2>\n\n<p>The picture that emerged from the EuMBC meeting is clear: <strong>regulatory compliance is no longer a simple requirement<\/strong>, but a true <strong>competitive driver<\/strong>.
